Dugos Wild Forest Honey originated in Surigao del Sur, Mindanao, founded by Mr. Leolando “Leo” Usares back in 2000. He came across the honey harvesters from the Mansaka, Kamayo, and Manobo communities in the search to find pure honey for his family. Convinced by the authenticity of their local harvest, he made them his constant supplier of pure, unpasteurized raw honey.
From his family to his neighbors, the product was well-received by many and eventually grew in popularity giving Leo the idea to turn it into a sustainable local enterprise. Thus, began the formal partnership of Leo with the local harvesters under Usares Foods. Usares Wild Forest Honey was introduced in the market through many trade fairs in Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon with the help of government collaborations. In 2017, the brand proudly carried the word, “dugos” that comes from a local term for honey – a unique name for a unique flavor.
Since then the product sold out from fairs and created more demand from the market. Usares Foods aims to offer nature’s finest products at reasonable prices and uplift the lives and working conditions of its local partners by providing fair compensation for their efforts and skills.
